The Eliza Thompson House
You would be hard pressed to find better hospitality in Savannah than at the Eliza Thompson House bed and breakfast on Jones Street. But be warned, there's something strange going on on the first floor--particularly in room 132.
The very first home to be built on Jones Street, hailed as the prettiest street in Savannah, the Eliza Thompson House was constructed in 1847 for Joseph and Eliza Thompson and their seven children. Some of these children may still be in residence, making their presence known in the R. Bruce room (132). Guests in this room have seen what appears to be the torso portion of a confederate soldier. He has been seen sitting on the couch as well as standing in front of the window. Interestingly, passers by have seen a confederate soldier standing in the window looking down onto Jones Street. This apparition is believed to be that of James Thompson, one of Eliza and Joseph's two sons. Ironically, James Thompson survived his tenure in the confederate army, only to die of wounds inflicted after a horse kicked him in the stomach right in front of the house. His spirit, apparently, has not gone far.
James is not the only Thompson thought to haunt the Eliza Thompson House. Also in room 132, guests have experienced the sound of children's laughter...playful, joyful laughter. Guests have even felt the imprint of someone sitting on the edge of the bed next to them, almost urging them to get up and play.
A stay at the Eliza Thompson House, with its richly decorated guestrooms and award-winning hospitality, is sure to please the most discriminating of travelers. Just don't be surprised when the friendly resident ghosts show a little "hospitality" of their own.
