The Moon River Brewing Company
There is more than an ample selection of fine craft beers awaiting the thirsty visitor at Savannah's Moon River Brewing Company. There are "spirits" of an other-worldly nature as well. Housed in a circa 1821 building that once served as Savannah's first hotel, known as City Hotel, the Moon River Brewing Company is the perfect setting for ghostly encounters. In fact, one the signature brews at the Moon River Brewing Company is appropriately named 'Apparition Ale', a fitting tribute to the specters that claim this old building as their home.
The staff at the Moon River Brewing Company have had several strange encounters with these resident apparitions. One such entity, a shadow figure frequently seen in the downstairs billiards room, has been lovingly named "Toby". Toby apparently is a bit of a trickster. He likes to "brush past" employees giving them quite a fright. Old Toby has even been caught on film by the notorious Sci-Fi channel's Ghost Hunters. During their 2005 investigation of the brewery, they caught a very interesting shadow figure move out of the wall and pass behind one of the pool tables. The strange apparition then turned and disappeared right back into the wall!
On the third floor of the Moon River Brewing Company, a section of the old building that has not been renovated, staff has experience the uneasy feeling of a female presence. Seen at times as a woman dressed in white period clothing, this presence seems to be unsettled--even disturbed. There is a heavy feeling on the third floor of the brewery--a feeling of unwelcome.
Strange happenings seem to be quite the normal experience at the Moon River Brewing Company. Staff have experienced silverware moving on its own. They have even had bottles thrown from shelves! One account tells of a ghostly figure sidling up to the bar as if to order a drink and then simply vanishing right in front of the bartenders. Perhaps the lure of this active Savannah hot spot, with its delicious house brewed beer, has left the dead thirsty for a taste of their own.
